Tierra Del Viento

Tierra Del Viento

I think the wind peaked today at 41 mph (66 km/h). Sucks when you try to get in and out of your car, btw. This flag and many others were fresh replacements about a week ago. I wonder what the budget is on flags. Maybe they need to make them out of kevlar.

The First Day Of Good Snow

Well actually the first day here on this part of the island. Everywhere else has had snow off and on for about a month or so. This will probably last only for today, maybe tomorrow. Snow doesn’t like to visit us often in this area.

Construction Projects

New seawall being developed near the mouth of the Rio Grande river to prevent erosion and flooding. Will also include a new paved road along this part of the waterway, walkway, lights, benches, park, etc. Part of an ongoing project to improve the city’s image while at the same time boosting the defense of the coastal area.

New Seawall

What was once a hotel long ago, the structure was gutted and is currently being transformed into a government-run culinary arts, hospitality, and hotel management school.

It was the wind, I swear

Finally after a week of cold and dreary weather, the sun reemerged in all its glory. To take advantage, I decided to journey out and snap a few pictures. The wind in the city was a bit strong but not overly so. Only when I hit the wide open expansion of ocean and land, did I realize that today was the wrong day. I managed to take a few but had a hard time keeping the camera steady. More on the following subjects later, but until then….

Mision Salesiana

La Misión Salesiana De Rio Grande. The mission was founded in 1893 while the chapel above was constructed in 1898. This is where Jose Fagnano, of the Don Bosco order, evangelized many of the indigenous indians.

Cabo Domingo

Cabo Domingo. I planned on taking some close-ups but getting sandblasted isn’t my cup of tea. Unfortunately, the cliff has a bad mark on its history but more on that later.
